Now I don’t tend to read nonfiction books and I couldn’t tell you the last time I read poetry. But seeing as #nonfictionnovember has been making the rounds on Instagram, I thought I’d share a mini nonfiction review of All Along You Were Blooming: Thoughts for Boundless Living.

This heart-felt and tender collection of poems is beautifully and elegantly written. Each page features gorgeous illustrations and inspiring prose. The book is separated into four different sections; for the heart – what you feel, for the mind – what you think, for the body – what you do, and for the soul – who you are. The poems within differ in length; some are a few words, others are a few paragraphs and some can be a page or two long.

All Along You Were Blooming started off as a project for Harper Nichols. She asked her Instagram audience to message her with their real-life experiences, both good and bad, and the result is this insightful collection of poetry. From mountains and water to shadows and light, Harper Nichols combines her surroundings and her religion to create compelling poetry. Each chapter flows smoothly, despite different topics being broached. The poems explore love and heartbreak, strength and resilience, healing, growth, acceptance and so much more. It’s an incredibly comforting book.

It’s not something I could sit down and read in one sitting, but All Along You Were Blooming is definitely something I will refer back to when I’m in need of inspiration.
